1. City’s Park (Parque da Cidade)
With about 83 acre, Porto City’s Park is the largest urban park in the country. Whether in the sun or in the shade, space to spread the towel you will not lack. But, if you prefer not to sit on the floor or have mobility difficulties, there is also a picnic area, near the north entrance (Estrada da Circunvalação), with several stone tables, in the shade and spaced apart from each other.
The Park has all the necessary facilities to spend a comfortable day, including changing rooms with toilets, and there is also a playground to entertain the little ones, playgrounds, bars with terraces and the Water Pavilion, an interactive space for a playful moment. . You can also take a walk along the approximately 10 km of existing trails, observe the various species of birds that inhabit the Park or simply relax by one of the lakes until sunset.
2. Crystal Palace Gardens (Jardins do Palácio de Cristal)
Among the obligatory green spaces in Porto are the Crystal Palace Gardens, an emblematic place in the city. With about 9 hectares and a privileged view of the Douro River and the riverside area of Vila Nova de Gaia, the Crystal Palace Gardens offer charming flower gardens, discreet corners surrounded by vegetation, lakes, and extensive lawns in the shade or bathed in the sun, to extend to towel off and enjoy a picnic. 5. Areinho River Beach picnic park
Next to Ponte do Freixo, is one of the most popular river beaches in Vila Nova de Gaia, Areinho. The picnic park overlooking the river, shaded by large trees, is right next to the beach, so you don’t even need to pack your picnic basket if you want to go for a swim in the calm waters of the river.
Nearby, there is a section of the footpath and cycle path that links the Infante Bridge to the Freixo Palace, and also the wooden walkway that connects the Quebrantões Pier to the Jardim do Areinho.
